Organized material for the presentation. Planned my section that I will be presenting. looking up more information to be sure I have all the correct information.
Today we went to Crystal House to present t the second half of our community project. We talked about the importance of staying hydrated and limiting caffeine intake. We presented the members with a water bubbler, some MWCC water bottles, and Crystal Light packets to flavor their water. All of the members seemed to really enjoy it, and we received an email letting us know that the members spend the rest of the day filling their water bottles. I think it was a really productive day.
Today we presented our final project with the girls from the club. We focused on nutrition and hygiene as our topics. Presented with posters and activities for the girls to follow along with.
I went and purchased materials and researched my plate.org then created my poster and planned my activity for the girls. My topic is on nutrition.
Today was awesome. We held our coping skills group at Crystal House. The members participated in a conversation about their personal coping skills and we talked about some different strategies to manage stress and anxiety. We provided materials to make keychains with reminders of some preferred coping mechanisms, so that they can be easily accessed in a time of stress/anxiety. There were also adult coloring pages available for members to participate in some therapeutic coloring. Members were also provided with information about how stress and anxiety affect our bodies and many different ways to cope with stressors. All members were very receptive and seemed to enjoy the activities.
Today we met at school and decided on our presentations and how we would present them. We will show our posters that we did with the girls as well as a power point describing what our purpose was.
We tied up some loose ends today. We finished our fliers, poster boards, and planned our itineraries for our Crystal House presentations. We also worked on our power point for the faculty presentation.
We started at the school and prepped for our groups, went over the material and ran through the presentation with each other. We then went to the BGC and worked with our groups. I had the 11-13 yr olds. We did a welcome group and also had the girls work on a poster and discuss words that would be the baseline of rules for our program. We will use the posters for our community project at the end of the program.
Today we got together and brainstormed our two topics as a whole group. We talked about our presentation. Group A is going to be having a group about coping skills for stress and anxiety and group B is presenting a group on limiting caffeine and nicotine and increasing water intake. We visited Crystal House, met the members and staff and decided our message would be best received on two separate days. We also got some supplies for our presentation to MWCC professors. We researched information on our topics and collaborated together to come up with our abstract. Certain tasks were delegated to individuals with certain strengths or opportunities. Over the course of 6 hours, our group was able to accomplish more than what we set out to do for the day.
Today we made lesson plans for the 3 weeks we will be at our sites. We discussed what each week will be about. 1st week is the intro, 2nd week will be on nutrition and finsh with hygene. We figured out who will make which posters for each week and decided that the poster will be used for our presentation at the end.
We met our contact person from boys and girls club. we discussed our project and started our planning process. we figured out times that work best for our group. we will meet at the Gardner campus
Today we met with our team to brainstorm ideas for our service learning project. We met our community partner rep and we're able to narrow our focus to better suit the needs of the population. We also met with Linda and talked about teamwork and the characteristics of an excellent team.
This was our service learning orientation. We picked our locations, got to know our groups, and chose a leader.
Today was orientation, we also picked our project groups and our lab groups. We discussed the importance of a good leader.
My group had a table to teach students the dangers of smoking cigarettes and vaping. We had a poster and flyers that show the damage you do to your body by smoking, the benefits of quitting if you already smoke and local resources to help quit. We also brought the science department's actual healthy and unhealthy lungs to blow up and let the students feel. They were very interested and engaged.
